Although I had previous experience with Objective-C, it provided limited advantage in this context. Following the initial learning phase, I spent two weeks using Sketch to design mock-ups and refine the app’s user interface. During development, I encountered unexpected errors and complex debugging scenarios, highlighting the intricacies of iOS development. Nevertheless, I remained persistent and successfully completed the app within eight weeks. After the core development was finished, preparing App Store content—including screenshots and thorough testing—required an additional two weeks, which was more time-consuming than anticipated. Overall, this project was both enjoyable and insightful, offering a clear perspective on the commitment required to deliver a minimum viable product. --- ### Bluetruder URL: https://larslorenz.dev/projects/bluetruder Technologies: TypeScript, Vue, ThreeJS 👉 View live demo 👉 Source code **Bluetruder** is a small web app that provides a 3D model blueprint editor that allows users to quickly exchange pre-definedparts of the model. And I think you have guessed it. The word Bluetruder is a blend of the words blueprint and extruder. ## Features - Minimalist design - Dark mode aesthetic - Clean and reusable UI components - Modern technologies - Handcrafted style ## Technologies used - TypeScript - Vue - ThreeJS ## Insights The main goal of this project was to create a space where I could experiment with new technologies, practices, and architectures, while learning about 3D rendering, animations, and user interface design. While searching for inspiration, I came across a 3D model online—a hook with an icon designed to organize cables. I liked the concept, but realized that editing 3D models to customize features like the hook's icon can be challenging without the right tools. This sparked the idea for Bluetruder: a blueprint editor that makes it easy to modify and exchange predefined parts of 3D models. --- ### Katakanpai URL: https://larslorenz.dev/projects/katakanpai Technologies: TypeScript, Nuxt 👉 View live demo 👉 Source code Kata**kanpai** is a fun little project I built in about 2 hours during my spare time while attending a Japanese language school in Tokyo for a few months. It's a drinking game designed to help beginner Japanese learners practice reading katakana by guessing famous brand names written in Japanese characters. The name is a playful combination of "katakana" and "kanpai" (乾杯), the Japanese word for "cheers!" – a fitting reference to Japanese drinking culture. _(This was just a silly two-hour spare time project, and I am not an alcoholic.)_ ## Features - Guess brand names written in katakana - Beginner-friendly Japanese learning tool - Perfect for language learners who want to practice in a fun way - Simple and intuitive interface - Drinking game format for social gatherings ## Technologies used - TypeScript - Nuxt ## Insights During my time at a Japanese language school in Tokyo, I wanted to create something that combined learning with the social aspects of Japanese culture. Katakana is often used for foreign brand names, making it perfect for a guessing game. This was a spontaneous project that came together in just a couple of hours – proving that sometimes the best learning tools are the ones you create for yourself when you need them most. While the drinking game format is entertaining, the app works just as well as a regular study tool for anyone learning to read katakana! --- ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer at iits-consulting GmbH (2026-01 – present) Link: https://iits-consulting.de/ I just started at iits-consulting GmbH and I'm excited about my new tasks and challenges. --- ### Senior Full-Stack Developer at Sidestream GmbH (2025-04 – 2025-06) Link: https://www.sidestream.tech/ I implemented complex fullstack features in a large Nuxt codebase of approximately 1 million lines. Although I have always had a passion for technology, my professional journey started with the development of mobile applications at **aXon Gesellschaft für Informationssysteme** 🎨 in Paderborn. There, I focused on the development of **trade fair apps** and other mobile solutions with a focus on user-friendliness. I am particularly proud of an **AR trade fair app for WAGO** ⚔️ and a test app for iBeacon-based indoor location tracking. The special thing about this is that I was able to design and implement these apps completely independently. At the same time, I implemented a web-based dashboard for visualizing internal data as part of my final thesis. Together with a fellow student, I developed a system with drag-and-drop widgets, including full documentation - all in just six weeks. This project showed me how much you can achieve with the right technologies and a dedicated team. ## My beginnings in the full-stack sector 🖥️ From 2017 to 2020, I worked as a **full-stack developer** at **dSPACE GmbH** in Paderborn. There I was responsible for the independent planning and implementation of new features as well as the support of internal applications for customer license management. What made this position particularly challenging: I was solely responsible for the software 99% of the time, without a real team. This required a high degree of self-motivated problem solving and self-organization. This experience taught me a lot about working independently, but also showed me how important real teamwork is. The lack of a real team ultimately led me to look for new challenges. ## The world of enterprise development 🤖 The decisive turning point came in May 2020, when I joined **Grandcentrix GmbH** (Vodafone) as a **Senior Full-Stack Developer**. Here I was able to work on various products with **TypeScript**, **Vue**, **Nuxt** and **NodeJS** for over five years - always with a focus on pragmatic and sustainable implementation. My projects included: - Modbus Cloud Connect: a configuration frontend for hardware - Component libraries and template projects as templates - Global linting rules projects for consistent code - Mock server projects for more efficient development What made this time particularly valuable was the collaboration in an agile, international team. I worked exclusively in English with colleagues from Ukraine, Bosnia, the UK, the US, Turkey, Afghanistan, Korea, Thailand and Brazil and learned how to communicate effectively across cultures. At Grandcentrix, I was also able to take my technical skills to a new level: 1. Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with Semantic Versioning 2. Interface development according to OpenAPI standards 3. Integration of Sentry for continuous error tracking ## Knowledge sharing and teamwork 💡 One aspect of my work that I am particularly proud of is my proactive contribution to team quality. When processes went badly, I independently suggested solutions, which were then discussed and implemented in the team. This approach fits in with my fundamental way of working: Problem → Analysis → Prioritize → Implement. The development and documentation of a modular npm library to increase efficiency in front-end development was particularly exciting. Built with **Storybook** and **GitHub Pages**, this project focused on reusability and clearly defined interfaces - an approach I follow for all my projects. ## My last challenge 🚀 From April to June 2025, I worked briefly as a **Senior Full-Stack Developer** at **Sidestream GmbH**. There I worked on **Hanselmann OS**, a platform for all company processes, from sales to internal processes. The codebase was impressively large at around 1 million lines, which required a deep understanding of the project structure. Although the time was short, I was able to implement complex full-stack features with a focus on maintainable component architecture. I always kept an overview of existing components and carefully weighed up which ones were needed or could be improved and in what form. Existing patterns were consciously adhered to or further developed in consultation with the team to ensure quality and maintainability. Unfortunately, I realized early on that the framework conditions did not suit my way of working, especially in terms of communication and expectations. We parted on good terms. ## Creative solutions for complex problems 💻 What I particularly enjoy is finding creative solutions to technical challenges. At Sidestream, for example, I improved the developer experience for the local database setup by switching between database migration states with Docker Compose and PostgreSQL. A self-developed script changed the DB volume based on the Git branch - an elegant solution to an everyday problem. I also look for clever technical solutions in my private life. To learn Japanese with YouTube videos, I set up a VM in Proxmox that streams with Sunshine and Moonlight, with GPU hardware passthrough. Chrome with enforced "Light DRM" prevents black screens due to hardware DRM. Remote control is via a remote mouse app on the smartphone - a stable and convenient solution compared to open source apps that try to use Android TV Browser with extensions. ## My approach to work ☕ As a developer, I am always looking for the optimal balance between - UX, performance and accessibility awareness as part of code quality - Maintainable front-end architecture with modular components and design systems - Pragmatic use of technologies based on product benefits I work in a solution-oriented, structured and technology-pragmatic way with the aim of building maintainable systems that provide real benefits. I value clarity, open communication and the courage to question things from time to time if it improves quality. My strength lies in a proactive, user-centered way of working with clear priorities. I always keep an eye on long-term development and proactively suggest changes that can create real added value in the long term. I am **Lars Lorenz**, and thank you for your attention. ## Creating great things together! 🚀
